Looking for veterinary services in Canton?
Hickory Flat Animal Hospital offers a wide range of veterinary services for pets.
Health and Wellness
At Hickory Flat Animal Hospital, our goal is to keep your pet healthy and happy. We believe that getting your puppy or kitten off to a good start with routine examinations, preventive treatments, and vaccinations will benefit them for a lifetime. We also believe that old age is not a disease, and treat our senior cats and dogs with the compassion and expertise that they deserve. To support this goal, we offer a full range of preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic veterinary medical services.
Dentistry
More than 85% of dogs and cats over the age of four have some periodontal disease, commonly referred to as gum disease. This can lead to bad breath, tooth loss, and kidney and heart disease. Home care (daily brushing) is very important. We can ultrasonically scale the teeth and clean them under the gumline, as well as perform simple extractions.
Microchips
Microchips are a fast, easy and permanent way to identify your pet. If your cat or dog gets lost, the microchip enables animal shelters and veterinary clinics to contact you and reunite you with your pet.
Laser Therapy
We offer non-invasive laser therapy to treat hip dysplasia and chronic and acute orthopedic pain, heal wounds and relieve post-surgical pain.
Pharmacy and Supplements
We carry a full line of preventive medications (heartworm, flea, and tick control) as well as medications, herbs, and supplements to treat most illnesses.
Grooming
Treat your pampered pet to a “spa day,” courtesy of our experienced and gentle groomer. Appointments available on Thursdays.
Ophthalmology
We diagnose and treat most common eye disorders, including conjunctivitis and corneal ulcers. We also measure and monitor eye pressure to screen for glaucoma.
Laboratory and Diagnostic
Hickory Flat Animal Hospital is equipped with a full-service, in-house Abaxis VetLab® Station, including:
VetScan HM5 Hematology Analyzer – used to run complete blood counts to check for anemia, infection and clotting disorders.
VetScan Rapid Tests – allows us to diagnose heartworm disease, feline leukemia, and feline immunodeficiency virus.
VetScan VS2 Chemistry Analyzer – runs biochemical profiles to assess organ function, blood sugar and hydration status.
Hickory Flat veterinarians and veterinary technicians also use blood pressure equipment, which is important for monitoring some of our patients with hyperthyroid and kidney disease.
We can perform in-house cytology, the microscopic examination of tissue (“lumps and bumps”) and fluids. This is helpful for diagnosing infections and benign and cancerous masses.
We also have access to an outside reference laboratory for advanced testing.
Digital Radiology
We have a digital x-ray machine for evaluating soft or bony tissues and heart disease.
Anesthesia and Surgery
Should your pet need surgery or another procedure requiring anesthesia, we use balanced anesthetic protocols tailored to the individual patient. Our monitoring system measures heart rate and rhythm (ECG), oxygen levels, respiratory rate, temperature and blood pressure.
We can perform most common soft-tissue surgeries, including spays, neuters, tumor removal and laceration repairs.
